Daimler Trucks North America, LLC (DTNA) is recalling more than 3,000 trucks for a potential steering problem that could pose significant safety risks on the road. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) flagged an issue with the front axle tie rods in certain vehicles, revealing that the ball studs within the tie rods may have been improperly heat-treated during manufacturing. This could result in tie rod failure, which would severely impact steering control and increase the chances of accidents. The recall affects several Freightliner and Western Star models, specifically targeting 2025 vehicles manufactured between mid-April and mid-July. Here is the list of the impacted trucks:
Freightliner 108SD: Manufactured between April 22 and June 26
Freightliner 114SD: Built from May 20 to July 2
Freightliner Business Class M2: Produced from April 22 through July 20
Freightliner Cascadia: Manufactured from April 15 to July 11
Western Star 47X: Manufactured on June 21
In total, 3,421 trucks are involved in the recall. To fix the problem, DTNA will have its dealers replace the faulty tie rod assembly at no cost to truck owners. DTNA will begin sending notification letters to affected owners on September 29.
In a separate recall, Mack Trucks, Inc. is addressing a critical issue with certain 2024-2025 Anthem, Granite, and Pinnacle models. The trucks affected by this recall are equipped with RollTek driver's seat assemblies that may have a serious safety flaw. Specifically, in 242 trucks, the seat pedestal and seat belt attachment bolts may have been improperly tightened during assembly. This flaw could prevent the seat from restraining the driver properly, increasing the risk of injury during a crash or sudden stop. The recalled Mack trucks include:
Mack Anthem
Mack Granite
Mack Pinnacle
Altogether, 242 trucks are part of this recall due to the improperly tightened bolts in the driver's seat assembly. Mack Trucks will correct this issue by having dealers replace and correctly tighten the seat pedestal and seat belt attachment bolts, all free of charge. Mack will begin notifying affected truck owners on September 27.
