Detroit's I-94 Weekend Closure: What You Need to Know

This coming weekend, truckers should be prepared for a notable closure on Interstate 94 ( I-94 ) in Detroit. The closure, set to begin at 9 p.m. on Friday- April 5 , and expected to last until e arly Monday- April 8 , will affect the westbound lanes of I-94, spanning from Interstate 75 ( I-75 ) to the M-10 highway.

The reason behind this disruption is the installation of beams for the Cass Avenue bridge over I-94. As a result, all on and off ramps in this area, including at I-75, Chene Street, and Mt. Elliott Street, will be off-limits. However, it's worth noting that the eastbound lanes of I-94 will stay open. For those needing to travel westbound, a detour route will guide them via southbound I-75 to westbound I-96, leading back to I-94.

Montana's Newest Rest Area

Today marks the grand opening of a new rest area near the Interstate 90 ( I-90 ) interchange in Montana, much to the pleasure of the trucking community and other travelers. Located on U.S. Route 287 close to Three Forks, Montana, the Headwaters Rest Area introduces 35 truck parking spaces and is equipped with contemporary amenities, heightened safety features, and a law enforcement office for use by local authorities. Opening at 9 a.m., this facility is a significant addition to the area's infrastructure.

Features

The Montana Department of Transportation ( MDT ) has meticulously designed the Headwaters Rest Area to be a haven of comfort and safety. The design smartly removes blind spots, ensuring comprehensive safety lighting throughout the parking lots, walkways, and buildings, complemented by LED lighting that brightens every corner. Notably, the facility houses eight private restrooms, enhanced with LED lighting, sizable windows to augment visibility, and is positioned to optimize both visibility and security.

The rest area is fortified with security measures like surveillance systems across the property, license plate recognition cameras at entry and exit points, and is close to a forthcoming Public Safety Facility. Additional conveniences include baby changing stations and toddler seats in restrooms, a drinking fountain with a bottle filler, educational signage about the area, a pet enclosure, and a pergola providing shade.

MDT Interim Director, Larry Flynn, has extended his thanks to the community for their patience throughout the construction period, acknowledging the project's extended timeline but underscoring its importance in improving the travel experience for the public.
