Pennsylvania authorities recently apprehended three men in the act of stealing beef from a locked, parked tractor-trailer. Douglas Mathis, Jamir Scott, and Tariq Duncan now face charges including theft and involvement in corrupt organizations, according to the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General .
On the morning of Tuesday, September 24, the trio was reportedly seen breaking the lock on a tractor-trailer and transferring 25 cases of beef, worth $7,000, into their van. The truck was parked on the 7300 block of Edmund Street in Philadelphia. Agents from the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General, with assistance from the Philadelphia Police Department, intervened during the theft, recovering the 1600 pounds of stolen beef.
"This successful operation highlights the exceptional teamwork between law enforcement agencies in preventing significant cargo thefts from parked trailers," said Attorney General Henry. "Our Organized Crime Section's swift action ensured these criminals were stopped in their tracks."
These arrests are part of the broader "Operation Beef Bandit," a coordinated initiative targeting an organized cargo theft ring, involving multiple law enforcement entities, including the New Jersey State Police. Bail for each suspect has been set at $200,000.
Earlier in the month , four men were also arrested at the Molly Pitcher Service area on the New Jersey Turnpike, accused of breaking into a truck to steal meat as part of the ongoing Operation Beef Bandit.
